Answers to your questions about acupuncture
- Does
Acupuncture hurt?
While some people feel nothing,
others may feel a brief moment of discomfort, followed by a mild sensation of
tingling, traveling warmth or heaviness. Many acupuncturists practice a very
gentle style, ensuring a relaxing and effective treatment.
- How
does Acupuncture work?
By stimulating certain points with acupuncture
needles, the body is prompted to release certain hormones and chemicals that
can reduce pain, regulate the endocrine system, and calm the nervous system.
- What
symptoms has Acupuncture been clinically proven to treat?
The National Institute of Health
has identified over 40 conditions for which acupuncture therapy is appropriate,
these include: stress reduction, insomnia, indigestion, musculo-skeletal pain,
headaches, common cold and menopausal symptoms. Chinese Medicine has been
practiced clinically for thousands of years, effectively treating almost any
disease condition.
- Is
Acupuncture effective at treating morning sickness?
Yes! Acupuncture is very effective
at treating morning sickness. In Chinese Medical Theory, the Stomach meridian
is closely linked to the uterus, and is responsible for directing energy
downwards so as to not flow upwards, causing nausea and/or vomiting. One of the reasons Chinese Medicine is so
effective is because each treatment is tailored accordingly, taking into
consideration a pregnant woman’s unique needs.
